Along
the north coast of California, in the heart of the redwoods,
lies the small
college town of Arcata. While a student at Humboldt State
University, Damon Woudenberg suffered through classes without
a good cup of coffee. At the time, Arcata was without a traditional
coffeehouse and roaster. Damon set out to finish school and
open Muddy Waters Coffee Company. Why Muddy Waters? Damon
spends any time he can kayaking our local rivers. He has an
affinity for the water. He also has an affinity for good coffee.
Viola! It's his special blend - Muddy Waters.
In
February 1997 he bought the classic, turn of the century,
4-bedroom California Tudor that is now home to Muddy Waters
Coffee Company. In September 1997 Jack Fraser joined Damon.
Although Jack was originally asked to be head roaster and
coffee buyer, it became evident there was a tremendous amount
of work to be done before any beans were to be roasted. He
took on several administrative tasks, in addition to helping
with the renovation and construction of the shop. Construction
began in April 1998. On September 15, 1998 Muddy Waters Coffee
Company opened its doors to the public.
We
currently have a talented staff that is committed to providing
excellent coffee with legendary service. DamonŐs likeable
demeanor and keen business sense shine through the shop and
contribute to our success. Jack has more than proven himself
to be a standout in the world of coffee. His attention to
detail and knowledge of roasting are reasons our coffee is
so excellent.
