Brewing tips

We here at Muddy Waters Coffee Co. understand the importance of being able to brew from home, that's why we came up with a few tips to help you achieve a great tasting cup of coffee every time. For a fresh and tasty cup of coffee please follow these guidelines when brewing your own cup at home.

The Perfect Cup at Home.

1. Buy the freshest coffee beans available. Get enough to last you for a week to two week's time. Store beans in an airtight container on the counter.

2. Grind just before brewing. Adjust grind according to brewing method. Fine grind for espresso, medium grind for drip brewers, on up to a course grind for press pots.

3. Measure 1 arched tablespoon per 6 to 8oz (8oz = 1 cup) of water for most brewing methods. Vary according to taste. Some experimentation required.

4. Remember, brewed coffee is about 99% water. We recommend always using cold, tap-filtered or bottled water. Bring water to just before boiling.

5. Gold filters yield the best extraction and are the most cost effective. If you use paper, look for "oxygen-whitened" or unbleached filter papers. Rinsing papers before use will minimize paper flavor.

Roasting

Roast:

The Specialty Coffee Association of America and Muddy Waters Coffee Company recognizes these colors and their general descriptions:

Cinnamon Roast ¾ Light cinnamon brown color; pronounced nut-like flavor and the highest point of coffee acidity.

Terminology: Organic

Organic is said to be part health movement, part environmental movement, and, on occasion, part grass-roots social improvement movement. To be certified organic this means that the crop’s soil and plants must be inspected by an independent organic certifying body, to be free of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other potentially harmful chemicals for at least three years time. Muddy Waters Coffee Company maintains a large inventory of organic coffees... Click for more
